THE AMAZON MILLWORKS CREATION STORY.
Amazon Millworks isn’t just a clever handle we came up with. It’s a name rooted in our origin.
In March 2000 while serving as a missionary in Peru, Andrew Sloop became friends with a local carpenter, in whose humble home he stayed and ate meals. Under the straw roof of the dining room Andrew found himself eating at a table and chairs that would have been better suited to a banquet room of the Biltmore House.
When Andrew asked the carpenter where he discovered the fine furniture, the man simply explained that he had made it. Andrew was fascinated that a craftsman of this level of hand-carving skill and artistic ability existed — much less that he’d find him deep in Peru. In an age of increasing automation, not only were these skills slowly becoming extinct, they were rarely seen in such beauty as the carpenter’s dining set.
From that day forward, Andrew has made it his mission to stem the exodus of artisans like the Peruvian carpenter from their trade. He began by setting up a reliable system that employed large numbers of traditional craftsmen in producing highly intricate woodwork pieces for the finest residences and commercial spaces in the world. And Amazon Millworks was born.
Today, Amazon Millworks seeks to provide this same highly individualized and customized service to an ever-growing list of discerning clients from around the world.
